The track as seen from the parking lot. Stan on the right. Budweiser Clysdales The TNT TV crew set up in their 'war wagon'. Rusty and Mike Wallace ride around the track during driver introductions. Bill Elliot waving to the crowd. The crews lined up for the National Anthem.
A KC-135 flanked by two F-16s put on an arial display. The cars roll out on their pace laps. The second half of the field circulates behind a second pace car. And they're off. First lap, first turn. Elliot Sadler has an unfortunate early meeting with the wall.
Bill Elliot and Jeff Burton fight for postion. Dale Jarrett passes Todd Bodine. Jeff Burton flashes past in a blur of speed. Or the blur of the camraman's unsteady hands. You decide. Jarrett's, Bodine's, Mayfield's, and Gordon's pit crews go into action. The UPS crew wins the race off pit road. The Robert Yates cars of Jarrett and Rudd in first and second.
Jarrett rolls by under Caution again. Bill Elliot drives past his crew on the front straight. Jeff Burton up close. Dad and Stan enjoying a cold drink on a hot day. Yours truly. Sadler hit the wall again, this time doing in his car for good.
This seemed to be a popular pass with the fans. I enjoyed it myself. Jarrett muscles past his teamate for the lead in the closing laps. Jarrett wins, Dad cheers. The UPS crew celebrates with a round of high fives. Jarrett takes a backwards victory lap... So he can wave to the fans.
After the race, a look at all the pretty trucks. Helocopters were used heavily by the VIPs to avoid the horrible post race traffic.
